Editorial Review:

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Iron Kissed--a magical tale.
Riding into a war that's heating up on the border, Ward, the new lord of Herzog, is sure he's on the fast track to glory. But soon his mission takes a deadly turn. For he has seen a pile of magical dragon bones hidden deep beneath Hurog Keep. The bones could prove to be dangerous in the wrong hands, and Ward is certain his enemies will stop at nothing to possess them.

Good, well contained, simple, fantasy story:

I enjoyed this book, but it didn't blow me away. In my opinion this is just another fantasy story about politics, war, magic, and dragons. There are a few twists, two actually, one of which I saw coming the entire time. I thought I'd get to hear more about the main character playing dumb with his father, but that didn't happen at all. The war thrown into the middle of the story was a little strange too. I think the author tells a story well, if she didn't, I would have been bored and wouldn't have finished... more info

I'd give it 10 stars if I could:

I have to admit that I'm a fantasy aficionado--which means that I love 'em all. However, this book is my absolute favorite of any book in my library. I read it as a treat any time I'm needing to regroup and never miss re-reading a word. I think I've read this duology a dozen times at least and I'm positive that I'll read them 5 times that with joy.
As others have stated, these books have it all. But for me, the best part of these books is the world that was created--that I keep wanting to return to as... more info

Gripping Fantasy:

I'm not going to talk about the details of what the book is about.. Just say that it is pure fantasy. I found it to be a gripping story with good character development and running the gamut from serious to humorous.
How good it is? well I've read it at least 4 times.

Great characters!:

I LOVE this book! (I love all her books actually - at least the ones I've read so far). The characters are well-developed, their interactions with each other are realistic and wonderful, the people aren't all perfectly perfect - they have flaws yet I still care about them and what happens to them. She is great about weaving pertinent information into the story, giving the reader the chance (and respect) to come to an understanding while reading rather than presenting facts in a nice neat boring wrapped gift... more info
