Our tests found the Hitachi 7-1/2-gallon industrial vacuum to be a quiet-running but heavy-duty machine that features a durable stainless-steel tank and the kind of high performance we've come to expect from the well-respected Hitachi motor. Of course, the bottom line when talking about a vacuum is how well it picks up debris. Suction in wet/dry vacs is measured in static water lift. The Hitachi rates 90 inches of static water lift, which is about as powerful as you can get for this class of machine. Hitachi's quiet-flow air design helps keep the vacuum running at a subdued 66 decibels (which, to give you an idea, is probably about half the noise made by your dad's old wet/dry vac). The stainless-steel tank is about as stout as any on the market, but, at just a little over 21 pounds, the unit doesn't feel unwieldy or tough to maneuver. A wide footprint and well-built casters make it nimble yet stable when moving it around the shop floor. if all you have ever used are "shop vacs" from sears or the big box stores, your in for a treat with this machine...a quality unit!!!

This Shop vacuum really...:

...sucks - quietly!!
After a few years of having to wear hearing protection just to do clean-up work, I can now almost carry on a conversation while vacuuming. I truly think this beast is quieter than our "home" unit (A Hoover I think) - I will put it to a big test this weekend as I prepare to hook it up to my finish sander (REALLY small particles) and do the final sanding on 180 feet of cedar.
Overall - very satisfied.

The Best That I Have Seen:

This is a great vaccuum for low noise and great suction. It's casters are much better than others, and is quality built.
The 10' hose is very flexible and is nice to work with.
It's true that you don't get the crevice tool, little brush, and uphostery nozzle. This can't be found at amazon at this time, but can be ordered easily at toolpartsdirect.com or other part centers. Great vacuum but BEWARE!:

I have owned this vacuum for four months. It has been used continuously since the purchase. The vacuum is relatively quiet and the suction is strong. I have owned dozens of shop vacuums and none have approached the quality and workmanship of this unit. I would give it five stars without hesitation were it not for the fact that getting accessories or replacement bags has proved elusive. The Hitachi website is useless...no, it is a joke.
