The Freud Difference Freud manufactures some of the most innovative, technologically advanced saw blades in the world. To ensure that the highest quality products meet the toughest design standards, Freud owns and operates six manufacturing facilities in Western Europe. Freud is one of the few manufacturers of woodworking tools in the world that produces its own MicroGrain carbide with titanium, called TiCo -- a combination of titanium and cobalt. Freud develops different types of carbide for each application to maximize the cutting life and performance of the tool; and Freud also operates one of the most modern product development research centers in Europe. By overseeing the entire manufacturing process from start to finish, Freud guarantees some of the highest quality, most advanced products in the industry.
About Freud Industrial Blades Freud's industrial series blades were designed for the serious woodworker. Available in a variety of styles for different applications, LU blades feature thick carbide tips, precision-tensioned bodies found in every Freud quality blade. Some LU blades include a red Teflon coating that helps reduce friction, heat build-up, and gumming -- which prolongs the life of the blade.
About this 10-Inch 80-Tooth ATB Ultimate Cut-Off Saw Blade This exceptional 10-inch, 80-tooth blade is truly worth the extra expense. The LU85R010 from Freud displays impressive engineering and features that makes it today's popular choice for woodworkers. The story on Freud blades is that the micrograin carbide/titanium tips stay sharp longer; the laser-cut body helps keep the hard steel blade flat and true; tri-metal brazing prevents cracks and failed joints; and the antikickback design ensures safer operation. While we may not understand the physics of these features, we do know these blades cut great and run quiet and chatter-free. They're Teflon-coated to reduce friction and heat buildup and to protect against rust, corrosion, and resin buildup. good for the right job:
I gave it 4 stars because it is an O.K. blade. I bought it for cutting 3/4" oak plywood (table saw). I was happy with the results, but not impressed. It worked well with other types of wood. Would I buy again? Only if I had to, due to choices available at that time. Price should be $69.99 for what you get.
Not Worth The Additional Cost:
Purchased this blade for a DeWalt 12-inch compound miter saw. Although the blade does a good job on most cuts, I honestly see no difference between this blade and my old Freud blade costing a little over half as much. I definitely would not spend the additional money for this blade again.
Great Blade:
This blade cuts very smooth with no splintering. I use this on my Delta 12" lazer chop saw for finish work. I had one of these for years and had it resharpened until the teeth could be sharpened no more. I replaced it with a Forest chop saw blade bucause I use Forest on most of my other saws and they work great but the Forest blade would not make the smooth cuts I needed so I went back to this Freud balde. I have been woodworking for over 40 years and in my openion, this is the blade to use for finish work.... more info
Its Good:
Super smooth cuts. But you can't really chop cut with the blade. You have to take a few extra miliseconds than you would with a 60 tooth, but you make that up in sanding and/or gluing time since the cut is now at about a 150-grit finish anyway. It seems to run quieter than the blade I replaced (can't recall the brand or model since its been on so long). And it fits snuggly on my 5/8" arbor, no play. All-in-all I find it an excellent blade for my second most important saw (my table saw has a Woodworker II).
