The Panasonic RQ-L31 Portable Cassette Player with Slide Microphone is a compact, handheld microcassette recorder. You'll be able to achieve up to 25 hours of recording with just two AA batteries. This recorder features a valuable voice activation system that helps conserve tape space -- recording begins as soon as sound is detected and stops when there is a lull in conversation so you'll never waste valuable tape. I'm enjoying this product. It has so many great features and will allow me to transfer some of my best cassettes tapes to my PC - burning them to a CD. Priced right too !!!

great for listening:
I use this cassette recorder all the time. It is small and portable, so I can take it with me everywhere. I listen to books on tape. This is a perfect recorder to put in your pocket while you are walking, doing chores, doing yardwork, or just sitting by a fire while camping. Get lots of batteries and enjoy!

The tape recorder is exactly what I wanted and seems to operate nicely.
I'm surprised that it didn't come with a plastic case. I really haven't had a chance to use it for the purpose I intended (language training and personal counseling)...I will only know this after the holidays.. Thank you. Ervinka
