DeWalt designed this replacement for their popular DW359 circular saw to be the lightest and most powerful saw available. The result is a professional-quality tool that weighs 9-1/2 pounds and uses a big 15 amp motor to deliver a maximum of 2,200 watts--just about 3 horsepower. That's a technical way of saying this saw can deliver the power necessary to take on the toughest work on any construction site. The saw's magnesium base plate and guard are part of the key to the low weight. It has a slimmed-down handle, which we found more comfortable than the one on the old model, and a slimmed-down body, which allows for better cut-line visibility. When redesigning the saw, DeWalt also swapped the previous model's 15 amp switch with a 22 amp switch to make burnout at startup less likely. We really like the big 56-degree-maximum bevel capacity, and found that both bevel and depth adjustments were quick, tool-free operations. The one drawback we found with this saw is that if the base gets knocked out of whack, there is no way to recalibrate the bevel or depth gauges. Nonetheless, if what you want is powerful performance and light weight, we think this is a great choice. --Brian Trinen

Satisfied with Dewalt again:
The main thing about any power tool is don't bog it down, keep up the RPM's and blow out the dust from the motor every once in awhile and any brand will last for years. As I am getting older, I wanted a light tool and still have plenty of power. This is the best circular saw I have ever owned. Light and powerful. You can spend more, but this Dewalt saw is all you will ever need.
Good Power For Rough Work:
This saw was purchased to replace an underpowered Black & Decker, which bogged down when ripping hardwood trim for bookcases and cabinets. The power of this saw is excellent, although DeWalt's own rip fence flopped around in the slot so badly that the trim cuts were practically useless. I tried putting tape around the rip fence to steady it in the slot, but it didn't help much. Since the saw has good power, I use it to rip plywood panels to size before precision trimming. No brake despite what Amazon says:
I bought this saw instead of the comparable Hitachi because it was a bit lighter and more powerfull. The product details said it has an electric brake, an essential safety feature in my opinion, but it DOES NOT! I will be returning mine and purchasing another, but not from Amazon.
nice saw, nice price:
Luckily, I haven't noticed the flex in the base that was mentioned by a previous reviewer. I have used this saw for several small projects and am very happy with it.
I do recommend adding the Dewalt edge guide, which is available from Amazon. It slips into a slot on the base and is held in place by a bolt. The edge guide helps in starting and keeping the cut square.
