3/8-inch three-jaw keyless chuck for quick bit changes
0-2,500 electronic variable speed motor with reverse
Contoured soft-grip and multi-position belt clip for comfort and convenience
Editorial Review:
With its burly 7 amp motor, Porter-Cable's 3/8-inch drill enters the market as a powerful, smartly designed contender. Backed by 100-percent ball-bearing construction, this drill's motor supplies up to 2,500 rpm, making it a smart pick for high-speed applications. The drill feels right in the hand, too, with good balance, a comfortable grip, and a nicely integrated groove for your thumb and forefinger, so it's easy to operate the tool with your hand directly behind the bit. The keyless chuck allows for quick bit changes: to tighten, simply hold the chuck with two hands and ratchet down. A handy adjustable belt clip mounts to either side, accommodating righties and lefties, and lets you quickly hook the drill to your tool belt when you need to free your hands up, a more comfortable arrangement compared to the top-mounted clips you'll find on other brands. The tool is built to last, too, with a strong, lightweight magnesium bearing plate, steel gears, and a tough cast-aluminum gear housing. There's no secret to creating a solid corded drill. Just build it tough. With its new line of corded drills, Porter-Cable certainly did that. --Jon Groebner

Can't Recommend It:
I purchased this Porter-Cable drill, and after a short tryout I returned it. This is a tool that has excellent design, but is poorly manufactured. The drill is noisy, and it sounds like the bearings won't last. It has a great clip on the side, but it's plastic (and should be metal). It probably won't take too long to break it. The trigger feels rough, and it's hard to modulate the speed properly. When I pull the trigger, the drill "jumps" about one third of the time as it starts up. Not exactly good for... more info
Turbo Power and Great Looks!:
I'd originally went for the keyed chuck, agonized, then decided on the ease and simplicity of the new keyless model.
The box arrived and it looks good, typical P/C classy looks and design...
Really well balanced and fits the hand, pop in a new bit, and WOW, the thing has TURBO power, mortising out a 2x6 with a 3/8 bit just like it was punching through a sheet of paper, in about the same time!
Thank god for powerful drill motors, no more chugging along with a Ryobi cordless, this thing just zips... more info
