This saw works effectively in both wood and aluminum sash applications. A built-in soft-start feature, electronic speed control, and a no load speed of 3,800 rpm combine to ensure clean, accurate miter, bevel, compound, slide, groove, and press cuts every time. The slide works almost effortlessly and can handle work pieces up to 3-11/32-by-12-9/32 inches or 3-9/16-by-11 inches, with press cutting capabilities for narrower work pieces up to 3-11/32 inches square. For bevel, miter, and compound cutting, the saw bevels 45 degrees right and left of center, with a miter range of 0 to 45 degrees left and 0 to 57 degrees right. Positive stops are provided at the most common miter angles, but the saw can be positioned securely at any point along the scale. Good Saw:
Arrived with some deep scratches on the base near the miter adjustments. Amazon shipped me a replacement overnight. The saw seems great. Stock blade is almost good enough for finish work. The dual bevel adjustment seems a little haphazard. The dust bag is junk but does a decent job collecting roughly 2/3 the dust. Everything else seems fine to me. Nice miter controls. I agree that a "D" handle would have been much more comfortable. I bought it at $439, but got a refund for the difference... more info
Good saw but LOUD:
As a full time carpenter, I've used this saw day in and day out for 2 years. My second Hitachi saw. Originally I had the old 8" compound miter saw and used it daily until I finally wore it out after 10+ years. Bought this one as a replacement. Light, accurate, great laser, but this thing just screams. You'll really need hearing protection when using it all day.
It's not an issue with the blade. I use several different blades, it's the electric brake. The soft start is nice and smooth, and not too bad... more info
I *REALLY* wanted to like this saw...:
and for what it costs, I should love it, but I don't. It came with a bowed left fence. After two weeks, I still haven't rec'd the replacement, so I can only make cuts from the right side. The right fence is about an inch tall, i.e. TINY. It slides smooth, and cuts wide stock. The blade it came with is good. The table is also pretty small. The saw I'm replacing is a five-year old 12" Dewalt (dual bevel but no slider), which I still prefer, sad to say(bigger table and fences). A couple of colleagues have the... more info
