These tongs are handy for flipping a chicken breast, for turning shrimp in the pan, pulling an open-faced tuna melt sandwich out from under the broiler and so on. Thanks to their nylon ends they can be safely used with non-stick cookware!
Not only do these 9-inch tongs cushion hands and provide thumb rests, which are useful when gripping heavy objects, but the nylon heads won't scratch nonstick cookware. I've Become a Fan:
I'm quickly becoming a huge fan of Oxo products, and I'm starting to wish I were starting from a blank slate. Unfortunately, I have a lot of old, useless gadgets that will have to wear out before I replace them with Oxo. This set of tongs makes so much sense. The plastic areas both keep the tongs cool while you hold them and protects non-stick pans.

Oxo Good Grips 9-Inch Locking Tongs with Nylon Heads The tongs are really sturdy and the nylon heads don't destroy your teflon as metal ones tend to. They also stand up to a lot of heat so they don't melt.
Perfect for non-stick pans:
This kitchen tool is what I really needed for the few non-stick pans that I use (other than my cast iron skillets). The nylon scalloped tips are perfect for all the items that I cook in teflon or silverstone pans. Other reviewers complain that nylon cannot take high heat, but then, most non-stick pans can't either. Silicone tips could take the heat, but they are not nearly as sturdy. I would find it very difficult to pick up large items with something as soft as silicone. What I like best about... more info
Super tongs!:
These OXO tongs have a great grip (maybe it's the nylon tips). The length is perfect. I like them far better than a pair of 12" metal All Clad tongs that I own.
