No swirls, no gouges, no stress: What a terrific little sander this is! It handles much more smoothly than other orbitals we've test-driven, perhaps because of what DeWalt calls its controlled finishing system that maintains pad speed and minimizes gouging at the start. It's perfectly balanced, lightweight and comfortable to use, and though the cap is hard plastic rather than rubber, vibration isn't a problem. It uses readily available 5-inch, eight-hole hook and loop paper that goes on and off in a second. If we had to identify a flaw, we'd say the dust bag doesn't capture every last speck---but then again, have you seen an orbital that does? It's the nature of the beast. Still, when we attached a shop vacuum to the dust chute, we got great, clean results. The woodworker, home do-it-yourselfer and the contractor would all be pleased with this little guy.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

I bought this sander for a varnishing project and it has worked very well. Good construction and good feel.

This is an excellent sander. Versatile. I had got one from a former employee a few years ago. I had no idea these were so effective. It does all I need and more. Be hard pressed to find a better sander for the buck. Especially here. Pleased does not cover it.

This is a little sander for delicate work. Price is comparable to other sanders. Working on an antique? You'll love it.
palm sander does the job:
This is my third random orbital sander. The first two were Porter-Cables. The first one was a right-angled sander, very powerful and effective, but it required a standalone shop vacuum to do any dust-catching. The whole rig came down as very heavy, and very, very noisy. The second was a Porter-Cable palm style ROS. It worked, too, but was rather short-lived, and the dust-catcher arrangement was worse than ineffective. This one is the best of the three.
