Editorial Review:

short description

A handsome, wide, shallow pot, this five-quart covered casserole is ideal for braising meats on the stovetop, then transferring to oven baking. Lifting the pot and removing the stainless-steel lid are facilitated by strongly riveted square handles. Clad in gleaming stainless steel, the casserole is constructed with an inner core of aluminum across the bottom and up the sides for even, efficient cooking at low to medium temperatures. Whisks, spoons, and cleaning brushes all glide smoothly along the curved inner contour of the pot, and the lid fits snugly on the flared, easy-pour rim.

J.A. Henckels International, the economical division of Zwilling J.A. Henckels, makes the stylish and durable Classic Clad series for serious home cooks. As well as being oven- and broiler-safe up to 500 degrees F, each pot or pan features a brightly polished magnetic stainless-steel exterior safe for all types of stovetop burners: gas, electric, ceramic, induction, and halogen. The 18/10 stainless-steel interior resists sticking, won't react to acidic foods, and welcomes metal utensils. Henckels recommends washing Classic Clad pieces by hand to retain the mirror finish, and covers the cookware with a lifetime warranty against defects. Except for the frying pans, each pot shows liter and quart markings, and every piece comes wrapped in a soft, drawstring gift/storage bag. --Ann Bieri

Not so pleased.:

I purchased to use with my induction cooktop....works great. However, the bottom of the pan is not FLAT! Stirring the contents is only possible if the pan is held steady. Other pans from this line have been outstanding.

Good Looking, Good Cooking:

I was searching for a pan that I could cook in that would also allow me to take a dish like a cassoulet, a confit, or a traditional American casserole from the oven to the table with some style. This is an excellent design, very good construction, and very very attractive. Unlike many 5 quart containers, it's not simply oven deep- the cooking surface is quite sufficient to allow browning several chunks of meat simultaneously without contact. Furthermore, the large surface area allows some very dramatic and... more info

Just as good as All-Clad:

I have a 7pc All-Clad set that I just love, but needed a few other sizes to complete my set. This pan can be found in the All-Clad line from the Chef catalog and it cost about three times as much. So I took a chance on buying this one and was so suprised that it is just as good. The only reason the 4 stars is 1.Made in China All-Clad is one of the last few products made in America, 2.many people do not like these pans because of the rivets inside the pan to hold the handles. The all-clad pan has two big... more info

A Perfect Pan:

When I could not find the equivalent size/shape pan in All-Clad or Calphalon, I decided to give Henckels stainless a try. To my surprise, I think I like it even better. It is a well-constructed and attractive pan that is perfect for sauteeing but especially for braising and stewing.
I particularly like the large surface that allows for browning in quantity, as opposed to the 13-inch braisers that because of their sloped sides have a smaller cooking surface.
The pan, with its looped handles, fits... more info
