NOT microwave safe - you will burn yourself on these!:
These dishes are beautiful but they have a couple of real problems. They are supposed to microwave safe but the problem with them is that the dishes absorb all of the heat while the food stays cold! I have burned myself trying to reheat a cup of coffee - put cup in the microwave in for 1 minute, reached in, grabbed the cup handle and burned my hand. The coffee was lukewarm while the part of the cup not touching the coffee was burning hot. Same with the plates and bowls; any part of the dish not... more info
Not Worth the $$$:
I bought these dishes approx 2 months ago. We use the dishes daily and in 2 months, 8 out of the 16 plates have chipped. I contacted Pfaltzgraff and they will credit me the money I spent on them if I ship the entire service for 16 back to them at my expense or they will replace the broken ones as well. It would cost me just as much as the service for 16 to send back. Don't hold up with usage.:
I use these dishes for Shabbat meals every week, and my family loves them. Company always comment on their beauty and large size. The large soup bowls are helpful to prevent splashing and spilling when serving hot soup to children.
UPDATE: THESE DISHES DO NOT HOLD UP OVER TIME!!! THEY ARE ALL CHIPPED AND SCRATCHED AND SOME HAVE STRANGE GREY MARKS! IT'S TOO SAD THAT SOMETHING THAT LOOKS SO NICE IS MADE SO SHABBILY. I HAVE SOME 17 YR. OLD FRANSCISCAN DESERT ROSE THAT ARE STILL PRISTINE, AND HERE ARE... more info
Beautiful, BUT....:
I bought this set about a year ago. Within a week or so I had a chip on a plate and I do not have any idea how it got there. I am very careful with my dishes and wash by hand, no kids.... I also noticed scratchmarks on the plates right away from the knives. While I do love the looks of this set, I would not buy it again nor would I really recommend it to anyone else.
