This knife tray conveniently houses all kitchen cutlery in a drawer without occupying valuable counter space. Made of hardwood, the tray is a slim 7-1/2 inches wide and 1-1/2 inches high and fits within a drawer that is 16-3/4 inches deep. The 11 knife slots include space for six steak knives or shorter knives with up to a 5-inch blade and five longer knives with up to a 10-inch blade or, alternately, a sharpening steel. The slots intersperse the longer knives between the shorter in what Wusthof refers to as a "wave" pattern, which makes knife handles easier to grasp and remove. Blades are completely covered in the slots to prevent against accidental cuts and to keep them from dulling. Now that we've redone our kitchen, the Wusthof 11-Slot In-Drawer Knife Tray is a wonderful storage solution.
The wall mounted knife bars always made me feel a bit nervous with grand-children visiting as did the knife blocks. This is something I've wanted for a long while.
Looks nice, but it has some major design flaws.:
Although it states it is an 11 slot knife tray, in reality it holds 14 knifes plus a sharpening steel. My first impression from the picture was positive. A closer look when I received the item showed that on the bigger knife section, the edge of the knife is sitting on metal rods that are covered in rubber. In the one that I received the rubber did not completely covered some of the metal rods which left the blades of some of the bigger knifes exposed to the metal rods. Checked out many drawer knife units, with purchaser reviews. This one seemed the best and I have not been disappointed. It is well made and puts organization back to my knife collection. Disliked the block on my counter, even though they were neatly arranged and just floating around my drawer just didn't cut it.
The Wusthof Wave Design is Larger Than Amazon's Description:
This is a nice knife holder, but Amazon is describing this as a ll slot knife holder, with smaller dimensions. I ordered 2 based on Amazons dimentions. What I received was a knife drawer, that holds 14 knives. It requires a 17" drawer depth, 9" wide and 3" high. The 2 knife holders, will not fit in the drawer as planned. This doesn't detract from the quality of the knife holder. But, please note the dimensions, what Amazon is describing is not this design model. The 29.99 is a great price for this item.
