This lithium-ion cordless impact driver from Hitachi tears through the toughest jobs with ease. Though it's compact in length at only 6-3/8 inches, and lightweight at a mere 3- 1/2 pounds, the WH18DL is designed to handle like a 12-volt tool, but with all the performance of an 18-volt model. Durable, versatile, rugged, and built to last, this machine is the perfect high-torque solution to your projects around the house or on the jobsite.
Hitachi's Impact drill has up to 1,950 in-lbs of torque to power through the toughest jobs. View larger.
Unique 2-step speed switch give the ability to select between power mode or save mode.
Designed to feel like a 12 volt while experiencing the power of an 18 volt.
Circuit technology prevents battery from losing full power when in use.
This driver comes complete with two high-capacity 3.0 Ah HXP lithium ion batteries that fuel its 1950 in/lbs. of maximum torque. These exceptional batteries offer three times the life and half the weight of NiCd or NiMH batteries, so they're perfect for extended use. Your driver will run longer without needing a battery change or charge, and you'll experience less user fatigue over the long haul. But don't worry about overexertion. All HXP batteries are equipped with internal circuitry to detect current interruption, a thermal protector, and an electronic switch that protects the battery from overcharge or discharge. Best of all, you can recharge them approximately 1300 - 1500 times, as opposed to an average of 500 charges for a NiCd or NiMH power source.
The new HXP battery included with this kit is also backwards compatible, so it works with Hitachi's older and current DMR and DVF3 series 18-volt cordless tools.
Loaded with convenience extras, this impact driver offers a unique two-step speed switch on the side of the handle. By flipping this switch, you can easily customize the tool's power to the job at hand. Select Power Mode (0-2600 RPM) for full speed applications or Save Mode (0-2000 RPM) for more control, as the situation requires. And even when tackling the highest speeds and the hardest jobs, the 2-piece motor can take the heat because it's protected by Hitachi's patented Cool Flow internal cooling system.
Other helpful features include a variable speed trigger, on-board bit storage, externally accessible carbon brush for easy maintenance, replaceable armature, a 1/2-inch square drive, and a time-saving 1/4-inch hex chuck that lets you change bits quickly and easily. There's also a 5-position belt hook that boasts an integrated LED job light for added safety and control.
The WH18DL is covered by Hitachi's industry leading 5-year warranty. Batteries are warranted to the original purchaser for a period of ninety (90) days from the original purchase date.

Most Impressive!:
As a dinosaur who's gone to great efforts to avoid buying cordless tools and/or anything made in China I finally succumbed after reading the latest Fine Homebuilding and Amazon customer reviews. I have a bunch of summer outdoor wood projects stacking up and decided to go cordless for the portability. I give the Hitachi 5 stars for fit and finish with solid construction and a rubberized outer cover to absorb shocks and bumps. The collet type chuck is easy to operate and the small size and light weight of... more info
Like everyone else says- Awesome:
This is just fantastic. Hitachi hit a homer with this impact driver. I've driven 4" screws into oak with this thing with no effort and was just amazed. I am slowly switching all my cordless drills over to hitachi, they make an excellent product- this driver is proof!
Hitachi WH18DL - Solid Performer:
Bought this back in Feb '08 and have used it a number of times for smaller projects, though my big projects are ahead. Impressed so far and I give it 5 stars for build quality, value, performance, and general coolness (I like the look that some find toyish). One area that I'd like to see improved is the grip. (This is entirely personal, and not major enough to detract from the overall rating of the tool) I have smaller hands and find the lower portion (ring, pinky finger) of the grip to be slightly... more info
One of the best tools I have ever owned. By far the best drill ever made. The power is unreal, and it weighs nothing. I am a General Contractor and have been in the building industry for 23 years, I wish they made these Lithium Impact Drivers 23 years ago. It drives 3" screws into pressure treated wood like screwing a drywall screw into soft spruce. Incredible.
