STRONG magnet, but gets scratched easily:
DEFINITELY a strong magnet. You can hang your heavy knives on this one. However, the metal on the magnet block scratches up pretty quickly. Makes it look used/worn pretty quickly. Still, definitely does the job well.
Great way to store knives especially if you can get it for under 10 bucks!:
I bought this in a Gold Box deal for under 10 bucks. It is powerful and can hold all your big knives easily. It also looks clean and frees up your counter space. It also keeps my knives rust free as they air dry quickly on this magnet after I wash them. It comes with 2 screws to help you attach it to the wall. I've hung it vertically in my kitchen based on the space I had and it still holds the knives easily.

Great Knife Storage. I got rid of the old block of wood that was holding my knives, 11 in all, and replaced it with this magnet. I got it as a gold box special for $9.99, excellent value for that price.

This is a great alternative for cutlery storage. Magnet is powerful enough to hold even a small ax :)
